Salt Lick

Probably one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I’ve worked on. This was 6 months of creative freedom and great nights out.

Creating Salt Lick

Salt Lick was a restaurant started by a group of friends who wanted to create the type of place we wanted to hang out in.

The hard part was we had no budget and no drinks license. The solutions of BYOCocktail (you bring the booze, we supply the mixers), monthly themes and renting a cafe just on weekends matched the food which was innovative, fun and original. My challenge was that the creative had to capture all of this and make the pop up really pop.

My instructions were to ‘do whatever you want’, so I basically had carte blanche to make cool shit. The brand exsisted on a Tumblr site, social media, some printed menus and I designed some perspex window covers we put up to create temporary removeable branding on an exsisting cafe on Friday and Satuday nights.

The project was featured in LeCool, Totally Dublin, Visit Dublin, The Dublin Diary, SBP, The Irish Times, Image Magazine and more, it was a great success for about 6 months and then we closed down and we disappeared back into the night as legends (in our minds).

The way it worked was there was a new theme every month, much like the restaurant Six by Nico does today. I created a new look and feel on the Tumblr site each month leading with a food typography poster which I art difected and shot.

A small selection of photography of the food.
